Day trips from Istanbul: Cappadocia and Pamukkale

Istanbul is a great base for exploring the rest of Türkiye. With a morning flight, two of the country's best-known places are within a day's reach.

Cappadocia

Famous for its fairy chimneys, cave churches and hot-air balloons at sunrise. A day trip usually includes the Göreme area, valley viewpoints and an underground city. If you can, stay a night to see the balloons.

Pamukkale

White travertine terraces filled with warm mineral water, right next to the ancient city of Hierapolis. Bring swimwear if you want to walk in the pools — shoes are not allowed on the terraces.
